Project Description
The Dunes, Hemsby Development
The previously derelict 22-acre plot located in the centre of Hemsby is being transformed into an excellent example of sustainable development. The brownfield site comprises the remnants of the former Pontins holiday centre which closed in 2008. This included a range of flat roofed holiday chalet buildings, with smaller single storey chalets towards the north and larger two-storey chalet blocks, developed circa 1950s/60s, sited to the majority of the south of the site. These are laid out in courtyards and interspersed with roads, passage ways, grassland and trees.
A significant proportion of the redevelopment will take advantage of refurbishing and reconfiguring existing building stock to provide a mixture of new residential and commercial space, comprising of 188 dwellings and neighbourhood amenity shops and leisure facilities. Additionally, there will be holiday lets located at the northern end of the site. Re-use and refurbishment of existing buildings in this manner provides a very sustainable development solution and is the key to a more sustainable future.
